Ø       Between Minneapolis and Saint Paul, there are more live theater seats than any city in the country except for New York City.

 

Ø       Minneapolis/Saint Paul International Airport, the country’s fifth safest and 15th busiest, is less than four hours from any part of the United States and less than 15 minutes from downtown.

 

Ø       Saint Paul has 287,000 residents, and the metro area’s 2.7 million, representing nearly every culture, creed and ethnicity.

 

Ø       Lowertown St. Paul has the largest concentration of living/working artists in the country.

Ø       Smoking is not allowed in any public building in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area.

 

Ø       The Twin Cities area is the 16th largest metropolitan area in the United States.

 

Ø       Nineteen companies on the FORTUNE 500 and 13 companies on the FORTUNE Service 500 lists are headquartered in the Twin Cities.

 

Ø       Major business strengths include: a highly educated work force, access to high technology, excellent transportation services, low-cost energy and available capital.

 

Ø       The metropolitan area has a strong and diversified business base, including companies involved in manufacturing super computers, electronics, medical instruments, milling, machine manufacturing, food processing and graphic arts. These businesses and others have helped to make the Twin Cities one of the largest commercial centers between Chicago and the West Coast.

 

Ø       The University of Minnesota, with its main campus in the Twin Cities, is a major research institution. Its nearly 45,000 full-time students earn degrees in 250 fields of study. Former students and faculty have been awarded 12 Nobel Prizes for physics, medicine, chemistry, economics and peace. The U of M is the largest college campus in the world.

 

Ø       In addition to the University of Minnesota, there are 12 four-year colleges, six community colleges, nine technical institutes and several proprietary technical and trade schools in the metropolitan area.

 

Ø       Approximately 40,000 acres of land are set aside for parks, trails and wildlife management areas.  There are 949 lakes in the seven-county metro area.
